Beverin is the first River Pearl PLUS
Finally the time has come: The Beverin is the first Swiss river to receive the “River Pearl PLUS” award. Many thanks to the municipality of Bever and to all involved!
Bever is the first municipality in Switzerland to receive the “RiverPearl PLUS” label for the Beverin. This is because the Beverin in the Upper Engadin is wild and untouched from its source up until the place where it joins the river Inn with the Inn river – with the exception of one short section.
The mountain stream finds its way through rocky gorges to the vast mountain valley Val Bever, itself relatively untouched. Up to the entrance of the Albula railway tunnel, the Beverin is a completely natural, free-flowing wild stream without any human influence. A rarity.
Surrounded by riparian landscapes and fens, the natural and powerful body of water is a habitat for an abundance of rare animal and plant species. Among others, otters live and hunt here, as the supply of brown trout is rich, and the nimble water hunter can find good retreats. There is hardly a greater compliment for a stream because the otter lives only in intact and healthy waters.
The municipality of Bever is entering new territory with the label “River Pearl PLUS” Beverin. It is the first to venture upon the undertaking and to openly commit itself to protect the Beverin.
