On Saturday, 15 June 2024, the Goldach became the third ever stretch of water to receive the ‘River Pearl PLUS’, a certificate which recognises untouched water habitats.

At a small ceremony in Trogen, Walter Wagner, President of the River Pearl association, presented the River Pearl PLUS certificate for the Goldach to the proud patrons. The Goldach-Gewässerperle Plus association has committed itself to preserving and protecting its waters for the next five years and has drawn up an action plan to achieve this.

Thanks to its remote location and unspoilt beauty, the Goldach is a true jewel amongst waterways. Nestled in deep gorges, the Goldach is difficult for humans to access, but offers an untouched habitat for the local flora and fauna. The steep banks are in a constant state of flux, shifting in rhythm with the mass of water.
