Mässerbach certified as the fourth River Pearl PLUS
On Saturday, 21 September 2024, the Mässerbach in Binntal became the fourth watercourse in Switzerland to receive the "River Pearl PLUS" quality label.
The Mässerbach was officially awarded the ‘River Pearl PLUS’ certificate in a ceremony held during this year's park walk organised by the Binntal Nature Park on the theme of water as the elixir of life. The ‘River Pearl PLUS’ seal of quality recognises valuable streams and rivers and the commitment of the people behind them and is valid for five years. This makes the Mässerbach the fourth stream in Switzerland to receive the label - and the first in Valais.
As part of the certification process, the various stakeholder groups such as tourism, fisheries, nature conservation and other interested parties came together in a collaborative process with several workshops. The lively discussions led to the development of a range of measures, such as a research day for school classes on the topic of water. The measures will be implemented in the coming years and will ensure the long-term protection of the sensitive and valuable catchment area of the Mässerbach in the Binntal.
