The Littebach, a jewel of nature, has been nominated for the River Pearls PLUS label
The next nomination trophy for the River Pearls PLUS label was awarded in Endingen on 27 September 2025. The trophy ceremony also recognises the ecological and agricultural value of the Littebach.
The Littebach, also known as the Cholgebach and the Lochbach, arises in a forested area between Lengnau (AG) and Freienwil. It flows through the Obersiggenthal valley until finally arriving in Endingen. In the upper reaches especially it runs largely undisturbed for several kilometres. With its clear springs, floodplains and a nature conservation area of cantonal significance, it serves as a refuge for rare species such as fire salamanders, the grass frog and the water frog.
The nomination trophy was received by representatives of the municipalities of Endingen, Freienwil and Würenlingen. The award is an invitation to the municipalities and local stakeholders to aim for certification with the River Pearls PLUS quality label and draw up a five-year conservation plan.
The certification honours valuable streams and rivers as well as the commitment of the people behind them. Contributing to the long-term preservation of the biodiversity of unspoilt waterways, it seeks to involve everyone with an interest in them.
