Together, we are celebrating our streams and rivers!
Today, on behalf of a high-calibre jury, Christa Rigozzi and Julien Perrot nominated ten Swiss streams for the River Pearl PLUS label, which impress with their beauty and natural state.
- The following water bodies were nominated: Areuabach GR, Breggia TI, Chärstelenbach UR, Emme BE, Glütschbach BE, Morge VS, Nozon VD, Printse VS, Rotbach LU und Talent VD.
In a premiere event, attended by representatives from authorities, the business sector, the science community and associations, an eight-member jury nominated ten outstanding Swiss streams and rivers for the River Pearl PLUS label in Zurich today.
The jury includes Christa Rigozzi, presenter; Julien Perrot, founder and editor of La Salamandre; Roger de Weck, publicist; Joos Sutter, chairman of the board of directors at Coop Switzerland; Dr Christopher Robinson, head of the ETH Domain’s Eawag Stream Ecology Group; Julia Küng, former co-president of the Young Greens; Sandro Viletta, ski racer; and Valentin Stocker, Swiss footballer.
The municipalities along these watercourse sections are cordially invited to work together with the association Gewässerperlen and WWF Switzerland, so as to keep protecting their respective streams or rivers and get them certified with the River Pearl PLUS label. WWF Switzerland assists the label carriers during collaborative development of a candidate dossier.
With this invitation, we generate recognition and appreciation in the region for ‘our’ river pearl. For a natural body of water should not be taken for granted. On the contrary: The local population has every right to be proud of these waters!
